Cyber Hacking is the exploitation of weaknesses in computer systems, applications and networks to make them do something they were never meant to do. The same technical skill sits behind two very different activities: authorised testing, where a penetration tester works to a written scope and reports what they find, and criminal intrusion, where the same weakness is used for theft or extortion. In cybersecurity the distinction that matters is not method but permission — and that is what separates a pentest report from a breach notification.
Role in cybersecurity
Cyber Hacking plays an important role in building organizational resilience against cyber threats. Implementing appropriate mechanisms in this area is required by regulations such as NIS2, DORA and ISO 27001.
