Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) is the combined management of mobile devices, the applications running on them and the corporate data they carry. It grew out of mobile device management once organisations realised that controlling a device is not the same as controlling the data on it — hence the separate application (MAM) and content (MCM) layers, which allow company data to be contained or wiped without touching a personally owned handset. In current practice EMM is usually one part of a unified endpoint management platform that governs phones, laptops and desktops through the same policy engine.
Role in cybersecurity
Enterprise Mobility Management plays an important role in building organizational resilience against cyber threats. Implementing appropriate mechanisms in this area is required by regulations such as NIS2, DORA and ISO 27001.
