Identity Fabric is an architectural layer that integrates and orchestrates several identity and access management systems, so applications see one consistent identity service rather than five incompatible ones. It exists because most organisations have accumulated directories, cloud identity providers and legacy authentication over decades, and replacing all of them at once is not an option. In cybersecurity terms its value is having a single place to apply policy — and its risk is the same thing, because a layer that everything depends on is both a target and a single point of failure.
Role in cybersecurity
Identity Fabric plays an important role in building organizational resilience against cyber threats. Implementing appropriate mechanisms in this area is required by regulations such as NIS2, DORA and ISO 27001.
