Identity Orchestration
Identity orchestration is the coordination of authentication, authorisation and identity lifecycle steps across multiple systems through policy-driven workflows, rather than custom code in each application.
What is Identity Orchestration?
Definition
Identity Orchestration coordinates authentication, authorisation and identity lifecycle steps across several systems through policy-driven workflows, instead of every application implementing its own version of the logic. A login journey — check the credential, evaluate risk, step up to a second factor, consult an entitlement service, issue a token — becomes a flow that can be changed centrally and audited in one place. Its cybersecurity value is consistency: a policy enforced in one engine cannot quietly diverge the way twenty separate implementations always do.
Role in cybersecurity
Identity Orchestration plays an important role in building organizational resilience against cyber threats. Implementing appropriate mechanisms in this area is required by regulations such as NIS2, DORA and ISO 27001.
