Dell EMC Data Protection Suite – Recipe for Secure Data

Dell EMC Data Protection Suite from nFlo: comprehensive solutions for data protection. Secure your data against loss and cyberattacks.

How do you become a proven and trusted provider of advanced IT solutions, especially those related to data protection? It’s simple. Just use the best solutions on the market. That’s why nFlo works with Dell Technologies, so our clients can always be sure that the technologies we offer come from the top shelf. Equally important is their cost – reasonable and adequate to the client’s needs and capabilities.

At nFlo, we don’t focus on one type of service. Our clients expect comprehensive support, including in the area of broadly understood data protection. That’s why we provide services typical of other IT integrators (hardware, software, services), combining them with auditing, consulting, and training services in the field of business security.

Nflo Dell Technologies Gold Partner

We support our clients throughout the entire process of implementing the solutions they need – from requirements analysis, through solution architecture design, product delivery and implementation, to warranty and post-warranty support services. It’s a big challenge, but thanks to our partnership with Dell Technologies, we know we can guarantee our clients a full range of highest quality services.

Why Dell EMC Data Protection Suite?

Considering various solutions for our clients, we concluded that the Dell EMC Data Protection Suite is the most comprehensive solution in the field of data protection, both for data stored locally and in the cloud. It is flexible, ideal for various environments, including those where mission-critical applications operate in various configurations and handle various types of devices, including NAS, equipment operating within ROBO, as well as tapes, hardware snapshots, and storage. Data Protection Suite supports both backup and disaster recovery, point-in-time recovery, and long-term storage. In short, it offers complete data protection within a single platform. Additionally, Data Protection Suite enables data owners to perform backup and restore operations directly from their native applications. At the same time, automated policy management and discovery of Kubernetes containers, databases, virtual machines, and file systems ensures that applications are protected with the policies necessary to meet business requirements.

When recommending Dell EMC Data Protection Suite, however, we were guided not only by our own experience, knowledge, or intuition and information from Dell Technologies. We also checked the opinions of other users of this system, verified by the well-known research company Gartner. On the Gartner PeerInsights page, you can check reviews of various such solutions. The Dell EMC Data Protection Suite package was rated very highly. As many as 94% of users would recommend this solution to others, which secured first place in Gartner’s ranking in the category of backup and recovery systems for data centers.

Data Protection Suite – A “Deluxe” Package

Dell EMC Data Protection Suite is a family of products performing various tasks to ensure complete data protection and the ability to seamlessly recover it in case of failure. The package protects data stored both locally and in the cloud. The package includes:

  • Dell EMC PowerProtect Data Manager – this element provides software-defined data protection, automatic discovery, file deduplication, operational flexibility, self-service, and management of physical, virtual, and cloud environments.

  • Dell EMC NetWorker – a tool for backing up, recovering applications and enterprise databases. Thanks to centralized administration, Dell EMC NetWorker helps protect data by allowing backups in virtually any way, using the infrastructure already in place in the company (disks, streamers, hardware snapshots, replication, and NAS). Dell EMC NetWorker protects both physical and virtual environments, including VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V.

  • Dell EMC Avamar – enables fast and efficient backup and data recovery thanks to integrated variable-length deduplication technology. Dell EMC Avamar is optimized for fast, daily full backups of physical and virtual environments, NAS servers, enterprise applications, and remote offices (ROBO).

  • Dell EMC RecoverPoint for Virtual Machineshypervisor-based data replication that integrates with VMware vCenter. Dell EMC RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines provides Continuous Data Protection (CDP) for recovery and restoration to a pre-failure state. Using automated provisioning and disaster recovery orchestration makes it easier to achieve Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).

An undeniable advantage of this solution is that Data Protection Suite provides efficient and flexible data protection in the cloud while using cost-effective local storage. The client can back up data and applications both in and out of the cloud. Additionally, data protection can be extended to cloud-stored information with disaster recovery and long-term storage.

In our opinion, the best choice is to use Dell EMC devices, e.g., Data Domain, in combination with the Data Protection package. The company then has certainty of full hardware-software compatibility and, importantly, long-term warranty and technical support, both from nFlo and Dell engineers.

What Our Clients Needed

There’s no hiding it, last year was a difficult year at the very least. Suddenly, many companies noticed that they had somewhat slept through the time when, for example, IT infrastructure modernization should have been done, or even a digital transformation of the entire organization. The need for a rapid transition to remote work meant that the demand for internal IT department services, data space, and… the threat of various types of attacks and data loss due to infrastructure damage increased dramatically. So it was a very intense time for nFlo. And it certainly would have been difficult, if it weren’t for the fact that we could present each of our clients with a proven solution, namely Dell EMC Data Protection Suite. For what companies interested in most often came to us for was the need to ensure one hundred percent data protection.

Two examples show what our clients most often struggled with:

  • In the first quarter of last year, right after the lockdown was announced, a large company from the financial sector contacted us, which was surprised to find that it was completely unprepared for the introduction of remote work, and the data archiving system did not fit the new reality (which unfortunately was confirmed by an independent audit). An “immediate” modernization of the central backup and archival system was needed. We undertook this task, introducing two professional data archiving devices Dell EMC Data Domain PowerProtect 9400 along with licenses for Dell EMC Networker and Dell EMC Avamar modules. Both devices are covered by a 3-year manufacturer’s extended warranty. Our service included the necessary implementation work, i.e., installation of devices and software, configuration, data migration, and training workshops.
  • For a retail client, we carried out a comprehensive expansion of the backup system. The previously functioning system had stopped meeting requirements. In the case of this company, our choice fell on the Dell EMC Data Domain 6300 hardware deduplicator. It is an economical and very efficient device that can perform a backup of up to 192 TB in less than 8 hours. The throughput of this device is determined at 24 TB per hour. Of course, we performed all the necessary startup work, namely:

installation and configuration of the deployed solution,

  • assistance in reconfiguring Dell EMC Networker and Dell EMC Avamar applications,

  • we launched local replication between the new device and the currently owned one,

  • we implemented and launched DRC software and launched remote replication,

  • we conducted product workshops and implemented the Dell EMC RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines (RP4VM) solution,

  • we conducted consultations on the implementation of the Disaster Recovery Center, of which the deployed backup system and the Dell EMC Data Protection Suite for VMware product, including Dell EMC RecoverPoint, were elements.
