In early May, Dell EMC introduced a revolutionary storage array built from the ground up. PowerStore differs from competitive solutions and eliminates typical compromises in performance, scalability, and memory efficiency, allowing IT organizations to meet growing demands.

The PowerStoreOS system architecture is based on containers, enabling unprecedented flexibility and ease of management. Dell EMC PowerStore is a specialized array with a built-in VMware ESXi hypervisor, enabling applications to be deployed directly on PowerStore for increased flexibility and efficiency. This unique AppsON capability allows running workloads directly on the array, reducing latency and simplifying infrastructure.
Built-in machine learning automates array processes through the PowerStore Manager intelligent engine. The system continuously analyzes performance patterns and automatically adjusts resources to optimize operations. Initial volume placement, data migration between tiers, and load balancing happen autonomously, reducing administrative overhead and ensuring consistent performance.
PowerStore delivers exceptional performance with latency as low as 20 microseconds for reads and 50 microseconds for writes. The NVMe-native design leverages the latest storage technologies, while Intel Optane drives serve as an intelligent cache tier. The array supports both block and file protocols, unifying storage services in a single platform.
Data efficiency features include always-on inline deduplication and compression, typically achieving 4:1 data reduction ratios. The array’s intelligent data placement algorithm ensures optimal performance while maximizing capacity utilization. Native replication capabilities support both synchronous and asynchronous modes for disaster recovery and data protection.
The scale-out architecture allows organizations to start small and grow seamlessly. Adding capacity or performance is non-disruptive, and the system automatically rebalances data across all resources. PowerStore supports clustering up to four appliances, providing up to 18 million IOPS and 11.3PB of effective capacity.
Security features include encryption at rest with support for both internal and external key management. The array integrates with enterprise authentication systems and provides comprehensive audit logging for compliance requirements.
