AI models learn from vast historical datasets. If this data contains hidden, historical biases (e.g., racial, gender, social), the algorithm will learn them and reproduce them in its decisions. There is industry consensus that AI cannot operate without strict oversight. The need to combine legal knowledge (domain knowledge) with the AI system to avoid erroneous conclusions is emphasized. Training data quality is seen as key to the credibility of results. In practice, law firms implement “human-in-the-loop” procedures, where every significant decision or document generated by AI must be critically evaluated and approved by a qualified lawyer.
